OK, I established the journal and my resolve/time lasted exactly a day.

Lets see if I can finish before November 2007.

The Facts:
Forested Wetlands show up as bright spots on radar imagery (dark blue Ulaby book)
Development also shows up as bright spots
Development and forested areas do not show up the same on multi-spec images
Use a Multi-spec image to ID development and mask it out of the radar
Calculate error
How does this error compare to the NH landcover study?

Need to:
Investigate getting Imagery on own.
Investigate the free software available to do analysis
$1500 for another ENVI class and a temp licence?
$$ for NH visit

Clearly the lottery may need to be involved.

Marshal the Resources
1. ENVI (thanks for the help [info]troyfish
2. Imagine (Still available at UNH)
3. The articles and resources listed in the first abstract (UMD?)
4. Wetlands inventory from USFWS and/or USGS
5. Multi and/or hyperspectral imagery from 1994ish (back up cds are in fact coasters)
6. Email MM (UNH sysadim) about using ENVI here to drive a tape machine up there.

Analysis Steps
1. Figure out the desired statistics and what data is needed
---email Inge re inventory data at Bear Brook, Mast Yard, other state forests in imagery
---figure out the guy at Harvard forest to get data
2. Figure out and investigate statistical methods for tests between methods

Save Pennies For
1. Trip to NH to confirm the fieldwork and take pictures.

Others
1. Throw up from stress due to amount of work to be done.
2. Listen to OKGO to channel energy and relax a bit.

Local November Thesis Writing Month

As stated in my bio. I spend too much time here and not enough time writing about trees and the electromagnetic spectrum. The goal of this journal is:

To allow me to record what I know
To write notes to myself to look stuff up and then write about it
To draft sentences and paragraphs and work on the coherent whole
To allow me access to my stream of consiousness so I can evaluate it and actually remember that great idea I had at the time (too much work for $$ and not enough work to get the MS so I'm more marketable has led to burnout and my brain being more stress chemicals than acetylcholine)

What this journal is not:

A coherent whole thesis

Though with luck a coherent and whole draft 5.97 will emerge. Something that can be polished into version 6.0 and given to my committee in December.

I will probably start early. I'm working between 60 and 70 hours a week and need to spend a minimum of 10 hours on the thesis. It really should be more. It really should be in two 5 hour chunks. But it won't be. Until Nov 1 my entries will be what I know, what I have written that can be kept, lists of what needs to be done/looked up/read. After Nov. 1 it will be new paragraphs and new analyses.

I'll be making this friends only. This is expensive intellectual property after all. Though with all the stress chemicals in my intellectual property, values may have declined. :)

So friend me here and I will likely friend you back and allow you access to what passes for my writing process.
